Wilhelm Sasnal "Bayer"

There are some paintings that I cannot pass indifferently. For those not interested in modern art, they may appear incomprehensible. To my mind, the best example of such a work is "Bayer" by Wilhelm Sasnal, one of the best- selling Polish modern painters. It deserves a great deal of respect. The author addresses very directly the issue of the roots of Bayer company and the history of Holocaust. He "excavates the tough questions of the past". Sasnal claims that his knowledge of history is not deep. Nevertheless, when Bayer offered him their patronage, he turned it down. "Sasnal is an artist that manifests his great political engagement". It was an obvious demonstration of disapproval for the brand which tested its products on humans during the war. Today, under the same name, they sell aspirin and spend a lot on promoting art and culture. In the world where they say you can buy anything or anyone you want, and that an individual cannot oppose big companies, such an attitude evokes people's respect.
